Strengthening the wellbeing of child-headed households in Rwanda

Research, Program design, implementation and support

In 2005, Laura led participatory research in partnership with ‘Les Eglises Baptistes au Rwanda’ (Kigali, Rwanda) and The Sharing Way (TSW, CBM, Canada) that explored the psychosocial wellbeing of child-headed households in three communities and developed recommendations for a community-based programming approach to strengthen the wellbeing of communities and the children. She then led a more extensive qualitative and quantitative baseline study (2006) and used participatory program planning to develop the program, including a participatory monitoring and evaluation system, and oversaw Project implementation in 2007. She provided support, including training support, and program monitoring until 2011. The program still operates in eight communities throughout Rwanda. (2005 – 2011)
